    Buzz at Vitafoods Europe 2015

The recent launch of Davoslife’s Naturale³ Bio-enhanced 20 created quite a buzz at Vitafoods Europe 2015 held in Geneva, Switzerland. The exhibition booth was packed with participants eager to hear about the new product. It was also featured in Vitafoods’ Innovation tour for “Innovative ways to enhance bioavailability”. It was one of the 5 innovation tours in Vitafoods covering various themes. Bioavailability was one of the chosen theme for the typical challenge in enhancing bioavailability with nutrients. Each tour was limited to only 20 participants lead by a Vitafoods tour guide.

It was a busy three days at the event, which attracted some 15,627 visitors and more than 800 exhibitors. At the booth, Dr. Sharon Ling, our Regional Manager for Europe, explained about the consistently higher increase –by as much as two-folds – in the delivery of tocotrienol than current commercially available products. Participants also had the chance to learn about Naturale³ range of Tocotrienols assured to various legislations on Dioxins, Benzo(a)pryene and PCBs, collectively known as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) . It has been the result of extensive research and development and technology investment, and DavosLife is delighted to share the fruits of our proprietary technology.

“We were so busy that our meetings were back-to-back like running a marathon. It was an exhausting but fruitful event as we had the opportunity to meet our customers and interested parties. A lot of important ties have been forged,” said Ms. Mary Kueh, General Manager for Fine Chemicals.

DavosLife Deals with the Global Issue on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS)
With increasing global consumer concerns about industrial pollution affecting food supply and greater scrutiny by regulators of quality standards in the health supplements industry, the onus is on ingredient suppliers and manufacturers of dietary supplements to ensure that all materials and ingredients comply with all regulations.
Davos Life Science (DavosLife) is pleased to offer Naturale3 Tocotrienols that complies with all major international regulatory standards on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and other contaminants in food and health supplements. In its new green field manufacturing facility in Westport Malaysia, DavosLife has invested heavily in the latest advanced technologies in response to POPs: A Global Issue.
Due to their stability and accumulation in the fatty tissues of animals, POPs are chemical substances that persist in the environment, bio-accumulate through the food chain, and pose a risk of causing adverse effects to human health and environment1,2. The range of POPs include:
    (1) Intentionally produced chemicals currently or once used in agriculture, disease control, manufacturing, or industrial processes. Examples include Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in varying industrial applications, and Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), a pesticide for the control of malaria-carrying mosquitoes.(2) Unintentionally produced chemicals such as Dioxins resulting from some industrial processes and from combustion, which includes municipal and backyard burning of trash, forest fire and volcanic eruption. (3) Another common contaminant, Benzo (a) pyrene (BaP) is the by- product of incomplete combustion of organic items such as wood and gasoline.3
While many of these chemicals have proven benefits in pest and disease control, crop production and industrial uses, they have unforeseen effects on the environment and health. Specific impacts of POPs include cancer, allergies, hypersensitivities, damage to the central and peripheral nervous systems, reproductive disorders and the disruption of immune system.
Over 95% of human exposure to POPs is resulted from dietary intake and as a result, governments are legally bound under the Stockholm Convention to address these risks.4. The European Union has established a maximum allowable dioxins and furan level of 0.75 pg/g TEQ (Toxicity Equivalence) in vegetable oils and fats and their by-products. The US Food and Drug Administration has also similar focus on the matter.1,2,4. Similarly countries such as China, Japan, Australia, ASEAN have issued its own regulations on allowable levels of various contaminants too.
Following extensive research and development and technology investment, DavosLife is delighted to share the fruits of our proprietary technology by ensuring our supply of Naturale3 Tocotrienols is safe under the various international legislations. As a testament to our commitment to uphold the highest possible standards with regards to food safety, we have launched our Naturale3 range of Tocotrienols extracts with product assurances to meet the legislation limits. They include, but not exhaustive:
EU_1259/2011, Dioxins EU_208/2005, EC_1881/2006, Benzo(a)pyrene EP 7.0 Pesticides EU 629/2008, Heavy metals Food Chemical Codex, Heavy Metals United States USP 36 <561>, Pesticides Australia Therapeutic Goods Administration, Pesticides China Food Safety National Standard for Maximum levels of contaminants in foods GB 2762-2012, Benzo(a)pyrene Japan on Food Sanitation Law and Food Safety
It is our proactive efforts to participate in the Persistent Organic Pollutants: A Global Issue that impacts our daily lives and future generations. Contact us below if you have any queries regarding compliance with your country’s food safety regulations. We will be able to assist you with technical support and provide independent test certifications as required.
Tocotrienols are often taken in the form of dietary supplements for its health benefits. Recent studies on Tocotrienols consistently show better clinical benefits in cardiovascular, brain, liver & women’s health. Tocotrienols but not α-tocopherol are found to have properties beyond antioxidation including reduction of stroke induced injury, reduction of white matter lesion, chloresterol and triglyceride control and aids in recovery of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease 5,6,7,8, 9,10

Naturale³ Bio-Enhanced 20, the epitome of SEDDS formula.
Davos Life Science announces the launch of a newly developed product: Naturale³ Bio-Enhanced 20, the epitome of the SEDDS (self-emulsifying delivery system) formula that gives at least two times higher bioavailability than competition. Upon ingestion, Naturale³ Bio-Enhanced 20 forms micro/nano emulsion in the gut which enables high absorption into the body and reduces breakdown in the liver, independent of dietary fat or food intake. Davos Life Science R&D validated that Naturale³ Bio-Enhanced 20 delivers tocotrienol at consistently much higher levels than current commercially available product. Vitamin E is widely recognized as an important lipid-based antioxidant that mainly protects unsaturated fatty acids on cell membranes. Although α-tocopherol is recognized as the isoform with the highest vitamin E activity, tocotrienol has been shown to have much higher free radical scavenging ability than α-tocopherol within the cell¹. This is due to the higher penetration of tocotrienol molecules into the cell while α-tocopherol mainly resides on the plasma membrane based on Davoslife in-house research. As such tocotrienol is able to protect important organelles like the mitochondria (responsible for energy production) and DNA (genetic code) from oxidative stress induced damage better than α-tocopherol.
Increasingly, recent studies show that tocotrienol but not α-tocopherol shows better clinical benefits in cardiovascular, brain, liver & women’s health. Numerous studies indicate that cholesterol & triglyceride levels can be controlled with prolonged consumption of palm-derived tocotrienol with the effect mainly due to gamma & delta tocotrienol². These two tocotrienol isomers are also responsible for controlling inflammatory responses in the body especially in conditions like metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, obesity, fatty liver etc³. Alpha tocotrienol which is abundant in palm had been extensively researched for brain health benefits including reduction of post-stroke injury and recovery⁴. A recent study also found that patients with mild cognitive impairment & Alzheimer’s disease have low levels of vitamin E in their blood plasma, in particular alpha & gamma tocotrienol⁵. Although vitamin E in general has been well studied for their absorption and metabolic fate, the plasma concentration of tocotrienol was found to be much lower compared to tocopherols⁶. Absorption of tocotrienol in humans is enhanced in the presence of a high fat diet but there is large variability in absorption efficiency between individuals. Davos Life Science proprietary formulation - Bio-Enhanced 20 overcomes this problem by consistently delivering tocotrienol at high amount in the plasma. Naturale³ Bio-Enhanced 20 will be the preferred formula for brand owners and manufacturers of dietary supplements as it enables the full benefits of tocotrienol to be achieved for all health concerns via its optimized delivery system.
